Breastfeeding tip : Recognising a growth spurt

* You feel as though you haven't got enough
* Baby getting upset at the breast (though can be a sign of other common problems)
* Baby is breastfeeding often or almost nonstop (feel like baby is always wanting to feed)
* A baby who was previously sleeping through the night is now waking to breast feed several times
* Baby will latch and unlatch, fussing in between

default Is this normal?

Post by kay on Thu Sep 27, 2007 8:17 am

Im wearing these medela nipple formers for the recommended 8 hours a day now, and the results are fantastic.
I have been leaking a lot - which i assume is partly because of the formers.
however when i took them off last night, there was loads of colostrum (i assume?) but it had turned to like a waxy substance (there was a LOT!).
I hadnt thought about emptying them during the day - i didnt think i was meant to take them off at all - and i didnt realise i was leaking this much!
Is it normal for colostrum to do this?

http://www.llli.org/FAQ/colostrum.html

It refers to it as 'thick and sticky' so it could be.

I never leaked in preganacy so I have no 1st hand experience - sorry!

The colour and consistancy seem right with that - i suppose if it had been there a couple of hours it would thicken more.

Better check them regular!

I think that is colostrum in the works! That is very healthy and would do good for your baby.
