Breastfeeding tip : Recognising a growth spurt

* You feel as though you haven't got enough
* Baby getting upset at the breast (though can be a sign of other common problems)
* Baby is breastfeeding often or almost nonstop (feel like baby is always wanting to feed)
* A baby who was previously sleeping through the night is now waking to breast feed several times
* Baby will latch and unlatch, fussing in between

Keira refused her feed

default Keira refused her feed

Post by nickyjones on Fri Jan 21, 2011 9:04 pm

Keira completely refused to feed this evening. She has been down to 1 feed a day for a good while (unless she wakes in the night). However it is still a shock. She has been fussing a bit before latching the last few nights but then has had a good feed from both sides. So this feels really sudden.

Has anybody experienced this? I am really hoping it isn't the end for us.

Well I have the total opposite if im honest, Lottie feeds just as much as she did since the day she was born.

But it isn't uncommon for nursing strikes at Keiras age, and I expect that this might be happening.

I would just follow her lead, but also try and encourage feedings still by offering her the breast.
You will soon know if its just a nursing strike or not, they don't usually last long so say if after 3 weeks or so your offering and she is very clear that she doesn't want any at all then you know shes come to an end.... I think personally she will go back to the breast.

Have a read of this.
