Breastfeeding tip : Recognising a growth spurt

* You feel as though you haven't got enough
* Baby getting upset at the breast (though can be a sign of other common problems)
* Baby is breastfeeding often or almost nonstop (feel like baby is always wanting to feed)
* A baby who was previously sleeping through the night is now waking to breast feed several times
* Baby will latch and unlatch, fussing in between

default Biting (OUCH!!)

Post by happy_chick on Tue Nov 30, 2010 11:22 pm

Riley is using my nips to chew at the moment, he bites down (has no teeth yet thankfully!) and pulls back and it really hurts, he's doing this 5-10 times per feed and its not just at the end of the feed its all the way through Sad my poor nips are purple and bruised!

I've tried to discourage him by stopping feeding, telling him no, i've even screamed a few times in shock but he just smiled Laughing i've tried teethers before/after feeding, tried bonjella etc.... Its really becoming a task to feed him as I know he's going to bite me the little monkey!!

Any tips? x

I know this is going to sound awful but it works quickly & effectively. when he bites dont scream react or pull him away instead push his head into your boob,he will realise biting means no breathing .Obviously dont keep his head there the initial shock makes them release your nipas they need air

xx good luck xx

I agree with Jane, I did this and say no.

Although now she totally understands when I say no and comes right off!

Will give that a go thanks, at the moment if I say no he just smiles then does it again!!! Its difficult as he has weight gain issues so i'm wary of just taking him off and stopping feeding as he needs the calories so what you said is defo worth a shot! x
