Breastfeeding tip : Recognising a growth spurt

* You feel as though you haven't got enough
* Baby getting upset at the breast (though can be a sign of other common problems)
* Baby is breastfeeding often or almost nonstop (feel like baby is always wanting to feed)
* A baby who was previously sleeping through the night is now waking to breast feed several times
* Baby will latch and unlatch, fussing in between

default Appalling anti-breastfeeding article

Post by salj1980 on Sun Jun 27, 2010 2:52 pm

My MIL has just shown me an article in today's Observer about comments made by the editor of Mother and Baby magazine, calling breastfeeding 'creepy'.

I can't find the original Mother and Baby article online (convenient that, eh?) but the article in the Observer can be found at http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2010/jun/27/breastfeeding-is-creepy-outrage

Apologies if this has already been posted elsewhere...

I read about this the other day. It's the most disgusting anti-breastfeeding thing I've ever read, mainly due to the fact it's in a magazine aimed at new mums Evil or Very Mad

I appreciate people may choose to FF and appreciate it even more when they're honest and say 'I just didn't want to', even if they say it made them feel icky. That's fine, that's their opinion! But to do this in the way she has, in the magazine she has, and for there to be nothing to contradict her words Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Maybe if she wanted to put forth such opinions M&B could have also published a very pro-BFing article to at least give new-mums both sides, along with some lovely photographs of those gorgeous BFing moments we all love so much Wink

Tell us about yourself : I'm a SAHM to Kacie aged 10.5 months. I'm very into an AP way of life, baby-wearing, co-sleeping, breastfeeding, etc. We're coming up to one year and I'm looking for places where I won't be looked down on for extended breastfeeding. I have no intention of weaning until Kacie wants to. We're also traying to conceive baby no. 2, so really hoping to tandam feed and will be looking for support to do this too.

So, time for a reality check. Formula milk is not toxic, lacking in
nutrients or in any way bad for a babyís health when prepared properly Ė
and we can all read the back of a packet for instructions. No, itís not
A-grade, but neither is it powdered scum that will turn my baby into an
anaemic ball of flab with a life expectancy of three. Nor is the fact
my baby suckles on silicone rather than skin going to give him a mental
illness or mean we donít bond. Thatís just ridiculous.

BAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA... what bollocks has she been smoking!
