Breastfeeding tip : Recognising a growth spurt

* You feel as though you haven't got enough
* Baby getting upset at the breast (though can be a sign of other common problems)
* Baby is breastfeeding often or almost nonstop (feel like baby is always wanting to feed)
* A baby who was previously sleeping through the night is now waking to breast feed several times
* Baby will latch and unlatch, fussing in between

topic 4 feeling very annoyed

Post by jools on Tue Sep 15, 2009 2:41 pm

sorry in advance I just had to come here for a rant

Kev took Colby to get him weighed this afternoon and I wish I had gone instead

First of all she asked if he was weaning ok and kev said we were BLW. Her next question was asking if he is sleeping through the night yet. Kev said he is waking quite alot at the moment (which he is - his bottom 2 teeth have fully come through in the last few days so he is feeding alot for comfort & he is going through his 6 month growth spurt). Anyway, she then went on to tell Kev that he needs more food and we should be giving him more puree. She obviously had never even heard of BLW

What does it matter to her if he is sleeping through the night or not? It's me that's getting no sleep
Not that i mind at all - if he wants it, he gets it!

I would understand her concern if he was losing weight or something but he is still gaining! His gain has slowed down alot but that's normal!

Aarggghhhh sorry about that it just annoys me that some people would listen to them, thinking they know what they are talking about and go filling their babies up with food instead of the milk they need

rant away,we have all had our run ins with crap weaning advice from the 'professionals'. I heard some mums talking after school yesterday and one of them was askeing her friends advice as she had been told off earlier by hv for not having baby on 3 purees a day ,he was only just about to turn 4 months old .

Thanks hun

I'm feeling pretty poop about it to be honest

Like she's saying I'm not doing a good enough job so he needs more if you know what I mean?

I know he's happy and healthy but it just got to me a bit I think

dont feel poop about it just completely ignore her, we all know youre doing a fab job and so do you and colby, if he was hungry or unhappy he would let you know and you would feed him! all babies slow down with weight gain especially at this age when all his food goes on the energy to wriggle!

Big hugs to you hunny

I overheard a HV at breastfeeding group telling a woman off for still breastfeeding throught he night! she said she was rewarding the child by giving him a feed when he wakes, and to CIO or give water.

we've all had our share of crap HV's (sorry, and hats off to those good ones out there!) - but it does get to you, i know first hand hun

We, the been there done that experts, are always here to reassure each other that we are right!

I never had a decent HV. I had one almost out and out right accuse me of feeding my kid tainted formula in dirty bottles, even though she was breastfed and contracted meningitis. I am so glad there are no such things here...just annoying doctors.

Thanks so much everyone I feel much better now I shouldn't let it get to me - I don't usually

Donna yes no doubt it was the same one then. Silly old dragon

When Kev said Colby was having nothing but finger foods she said... "Oooh that will help him when he comes to having lumps then!"
