Breastfeeding tip : Recognising a growth spurt

* You feel as though you haven't got enough
* Baby getting upset at the breast (though can be a sign of other common problems)
* Baby is breastfeeding often or almost nonstop (feel like baby is always wanting to feed)
* A baby who was previously sleeping through the night is now waking to breast feed several times
* Baby will latch and unlatch, fussing in between

Hello. My name is Megan. I have a daughter Meredith who is 5 and a half months old. I am a single mother and proud of it. I had a rough start breastfeeding also. My daughter spent the first 5 days of her life in the NICU. I wasn't able to see her for 15 hours after she was born because I was put on bed rest. They started feeding her formula without even asking me. She got used to being fed from a bottle because that was all they would let her have. The day before she was supposed to leave I asked about breastfeeding ( I had been pumping since birth) and they told me that they didn't have the doctors orders that she could breastfeed so I left the hospital without even being able to latch on. After talking to a lactation consultant at WIC and the local hospital I was able to finally get her to latch on. We have been breastfeeding since then with no problems.

Hi, so glad it worked out for you after the start you had. You would realy think they'd want you to try to bond as much as possible if you hadn't seen her for that long, and what way could be better.

I was able to give her ebm in a bottle but because she hadn't latched on I had a problem getting my milk in so she had a lot of formula. I knew that I wanted to breastfeed so I just kept up on it.
