Breastfeeding tip : Recognising a growth spurt

* You feel as though you haven't got enough
* Baby getting upset at the breast (though can be a sign of other common problems)
* Baby is breastfeeding often or almost nonstop (feel like baby is always wanting to feed)
* A baby who was previously sleeping through the night is now waking to breast feed several times
* Baby will latch and unlatch, fussing in between

default BFing and Slimming World / Other Diets

Post by Mervs Mum on Wed Jan 07, 2009 9:49 pm

So I joined Slimming World tonight and I wondered if anyone has sucessfully dieted while BFing??? I have a HUGE appetite and a shocking sweet tooth since I got pregnant!! The sweet tooth only subsided slightly after I gave birth but then ramped back up as time went on - its like I'm in permenant state of 'due on' which is when I have a sweet tooth!

I did SW for a while, lost nearly a stone in about 8 weeks. But then I stopped going to class as it wasn't a good time of day - I had to take Tiny Terror along and he wasn't happy...

Tell us about yourself : People who have kids by more than 3 different men are SLAGS. They don't give a shit about the welfare of their children, otherwise they would be keeping their bloody legs shut and creating a STABLE environment for their kids, either in a stable relationship or as a single mother - because single mothers are perfectly capable of being fantastic parents. If you want to sleep around use some fucking contraception until you are sure your partner is in it for the long haul, it is not fucking difficult. Kids need stability - they don't need a succession of men coming in and out of their life.

First week I lost 6lbs!! Really pleased and defiinately not starving. I was disappointed that the leader didnt know what the differnces were for BFing Mums - ie what extras you should be having - but I supposed they might not get lots of BFer there.

Watch this space - 6lb down....2 stone to go!!! Very Happy

From what I have heard they should have info for bfing mums on their site?

Its a shame that the leader doesn't know, I know lots of breastfeeders (on other forums) who have done slimming world and the leaders where quite good.

wow! well done, thats fab!

I did Rosemary Conley before i got pg, and lost 2 stone in 5 months. I emailed the class woman after id had Corey, and she emailed me a load of stuff straight away, i was really impressed!

The general rule of thumb is to allow an extra 500 cals per day, as this is what you need to breastfeed, and make sure you eat a healthy balanced diet rather than cutting out major food groups.

with SW you have to eat more of the 'healthy extras' which are fbasically fibre and calcium and they recommend you lean towards calcium.

IIRC, you have either 1 or 2 healthy extra As and 2 HEB's.
If you child is less than 2mo, have 3 more HEs.
If your child is more than 2 mo and exbf have 4 more HEs.
If your child is on solids, have 1 extra HE.
BUT the moment you baby turns 6mo they are not going to be on 3 meals a day!!
So if you start SW when your baby is exbf and then your baby starts solids, cut down number of HEs if your weight loss either stabilises or you gain.
Of your extra HEs, make sure at least one is a HEA. And have both of your base HEA.
EG if your baby is ex bf, have 3 HEA and 5 HEB. If on solids, but your baby isn't feeding much because he/she is having lots of solids, then have 3HEA and 2HEB.
It's not so much that you NEED the extra calcium for your milk, but the calcium will help boost your weight loss.
Oh and have all your syns to start with - 15 a day.

HTH

I did Slimming World earlier this year, lost nearly a stone 7 weeks (which for me is good) but stopped going because class wasn't conveniently timed.
I plan to restart the plan next week properly (been sort of doing this week but not really 100%).
