Breastfeeding tip : Recognising a growth spurt

* You feel as though you haven't got enough
* Baby getting upset at the breast (though can be a sign of other common problems)
* Baby is breastfeeding often or almost nonstop (feel like baby is always wanting to feed)
* A baby who was previously sleeping through the night is now waking to breast feed several times
* Baby will latch and unlatch, fussing in between

default weaning- going badly!

Post by nac on Wed Nov 19, 2008 3:21 pm

hello all,

well we are at six months and its time to wean - i was told very offiically by my HV as little one hadnt put one any weight in a month.

instead of putting on weight she had sprouted two teeth and fought off two bouts of illness with no meds - i think thats down to the breast milk!!!

so after i had been duely scrutinised asked if i wanted a home visit to go over weaning again! i was sent way to teach baby to eat.

two weeks later, she still loves breastfeeding and has no inclination to wean!!! forcing her to eat just isnt right i am hating this weaning business.

i want her to pick at food if she wants to and just breastfeed as usual, is that so wrong???

N

a bit down in the dumps with this all pale

she hates puree, just opens her mouth and lets it roll of her tongue, she prefers to pick stuff up and eat it, but not the sort of amouts weaning requires.

i wouldnt rush her, i'd let her take it at her own pace. if you dont think shes ready, trust your instincts. if you give her food and she just plays with it, shes still learning.

:suspect:Why oh why do they think that babies should all of a sudden enjoy shoveling huge amounts of food down their throats. \i was told Emily should have 3 meals plus puds & snacks at 6 months ,ridiculous her little tummy wouldnt have coped. I would continue as normal with :boob:offering small amounts of food at lunch/dinner etc and let her play to begin with,in time she will eat some but to be honest the first few months they put a lot on themselves the carpet/walls etc . If hv makes you feel uncomfortable and you want to avoid lecture, when you go back just tell them what they want to hear that your stuffing her all day with food & thank goodness as she now doesnt need so much breastmilk, which they start discouraging from this age!!!!!
Sorry i seem to have ranted on a bit Embarassed

I highly recomend the baby led weaning book.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Baby-led-Weaning-Helping-Your-Baby/dp/0091923808/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1227113645&sr=8-1

I have it, its got some great tips and it explains everything.

Just do what you think is best for you both.

Good luck with it all. We have been doing it for 5 days nw and she doesn't eat much but she is trying everything.
