Breastfeeding tip : Recognising a growth spurt

* You feel as though you haven't got enough
* Baby getting upset at the breast (though can be a sign of other common problems)
* Baby is breastfeeding often or almost nonstop (feel like baby is always wanting to feed)
* A baby who was previously sleeping through the night is now waking to breast feed several times
* Baby will latch and unlatch, fussing in between

DD is 18 weeks and only feeds for 5 min if im lucky, i try and wake her but she isnt interested. How long should it take to drain a breast at this age?

Daisy has always been a quick feeder. Also only ever about 5 minutes. They reckon baby's sometimes get more effective at getting the milk out so feed quicker.

Do you think for feeding this short a time, that they are filling themselves up properly?

Im asking as ive had afew problems with dd wakening loads during the night, last night she went down at 7pm and i woke her at 10 for a feed and she fed for 10min then that was her till 3.30, fed for 5min then she slept till 8am.

Those waking times sound fine to me. Daisy normally feeds roughly - 11pm, 3am, 6.30am, 8.30am

To be honest I think it depends on how strong the baby is sucking, Ellie tends to take around 5mins but she will sit and suck for alot longer than that for the comfort side of things. It sounds perfectly fine to me hun Smile

sometimes bethany feeds for only a few minutes and then goes hours and hours before another feed. And other times she can feed for half hour :aww:
