Breastfeeding tip : Recognising a growth spurt

* You feel as though you haven't got enough
* Baby getting upset at the breast (though can be a sign of other common problems)
* Baby is breastfeeding often or almost nonstop (feel like baby is always wanting to feed)
* A baby who was previously sleeping through the night is now waking to breast feed several times
* Baby will latch and unlatch, fussing in between

I thought this be interesting.

My original plan was to breastfeed for 12 months and this was planned when I was pregnant with my 1st and I ended up breastfeeding for nearly 2 years.

Mmm? Interesting, most voted for 9-12 mths like me. I am surprised I would have thought 3-6 mths get the highest votes (this comes from the preferences of society outside my door).

I knew i always wanted to breastfeed but i thought 6 month just because thats what all the books said in a way. Then when i actually started and realised i'd have to put her on formula at 6 month i thought no way. And thewn i thought 1 year. Bethany is now nearly 10 month and theres no way i'd intentionally stop now at 1 year. I am hoping to let bethany wean herself off the breast :aww:

When I was pregnant, I just wanted to be able to successfully breastfeed - i didnt care how long for.
When I found you guys and realised all the benefits, I decided I would breastfeed (if I could) until the baby weaned himself.

We are now 7 1/2 months in, and i never want to stop! :boob:

I wanted to bf as long as I could when I was pg, but thought it would be a maximum of 6 months. However, after I had Shark Boy and read up on it more, I realised I could aim for longer. Now I'm planning to feed him for as long as he wants it.
I only saw myself like :bf1: but now know that I'll eventually be :bf2: & :blyby1:

Very Happy

If you want to sleep around use some fucking contraception until you are sure your partner is in it for the long haul, it is not fucking difficult. I put 3 - 6months. During pregnancy I was very determined to :boob:. When Tasmin was born and they shoved a bottle of formula down her without trying to help me get latched etc I was gutted and spent the couple hours or so giving the nurse evil looks as she ignored my requests. Her blood sugars was low but they didn't help her answer was to give her bottle. It was only when we got on the ward she took to the breast.
4 months on we're still going but I think i've messed it all up by giving her solids and top ups wth formula Crying or Very sad

That's also why I thought it would be for a maximum of 6 months, too. Shows that the NHS have still a long way to go to to promote breastfeeding beyond 6mo. But since it still seems to be a battle to get many women to breastfeed longer than 6 weeks, I guess that is where they are concentrating their efforts.

well a surestart worker amazed me today by informing me it was only the colostrum thats important I then informed her that she might need to research and rethink that. How can all the active and inactive ingrediants of breastmilk not be beneficial? Its amazing but unfortunatly people need to be educated too before they promote. It suprises me its like an essential life start yet its less important than the say quit smoking campaign. :icondoh:
