Breastfeeding tip : Recognising a growth spurt

* You feel as though you haven't got enough
* Baby getting upset at the breast (though can be a sign of other common problems)
* Baby is breastfeeding often or almost nonstop (feel like baby is always wanting to feed)
* A baby who was previously sleeping through the night is now waking to breast feed several times
* Baby will latch and unlatch, fussing in between

default Help ..... ebm and getting lo to take t

Post by salocius on Sat Aug 30, 2008 9:30 pm

HI All,

I am going to out for the evening on 21st (well i'm actually playing a last night at the proms type thing so nothing glamorous). MIL will be looking after lo for us.

I need to get lo to accept ebm for then but how do i introduce it and when should i express.

her feeding pattern from 6am is hourly upto 7.30pm her last feed before bed which sees her through til morning.

we will probably need to leave her with MIL about 5.30pm so she will need 2 feeds. plus an extra one on standby just incase.

I don't know how much she takes and when ever i've used a hand pump i don't get much lucky if its 1oz.

where should i start?

i think 1 oz isnt enough, it might be in theory but in practice they want more!

Start expressing, each feed put pump on boby not in use when feeding then you might catch your let down milk also. (if baby wants both breasts then pump afterwards, will help milk supply increase)

start practicing giving ebm in a bottle not as easy as it sounds for some babes.

try and stretch between feeds a slightly longer interval, ie 2 hours then you will have time to replensih milk well and then she will have bigger feed and be more settled.

Get a friend to help with the above, baby crying cuts through me and my boobs feel lke they want to explode. A friend helping helps them stay distracted and not smell you do they can move from every hour feeding.

good luck with this,

n

I meant she feeds every 2 hours during the day and goes upto 13 hours overnight if i let her.
I've bought an electric pump to see if that helps.
am going to give it ago before i go to bed as i know that she won't need feeding and panic that i haven't got enough milk for her
