default Mini pill.

Post by SarahW on Sun Jun 08, 2008 10:53 am

As we all know the mini pill is the only thing docs will prescribe you when you are :boob: . However i am a little confused i went for my postnatal last wednesday, and was given a pescription for the mini pill but was told not to start it til the first day of my periods returning as long as i was still :boob: . But surely if i start to bleed it means i have ovulated and risk getting pregnant.

Also the leaflet that comes with it says anyone who has had an ectopic should not take it as it can increase your risk, and i have already had the whole of my right tube removed last april due to ectopic pregnancy.

So how much protection against pregnancy does :boob: actually give you. Because don't want to stop breast feeding, don't want to take mini pill cos don't want to risk another ectopic because we'd like more children (Mad eh) and dont particularly like plastic bags if you catch my drift.

I cant remember what the word is but you can have periods whilst :boob: and still not actually be ovualting so cant get pg. But it can also work the other way round and before you start have periods some women can begin to ovulate and can get pg.

Also the leaflet that comes with it says anyone who has had an ectopic should not take it as it can increase your risk, and i have already had the whole of my right tube removed last april due to ectopic pregnancy.

I would definately go back and speak to your doctor about this hun!

Also i'm not 100% sure but i think the protection :boob: gives you is something like 98% when you are exclusively breastfeeding, before your weaning baby. So were not actually using any protection at the minute and may continue not to why we've started weaning her now as if i did get pg i'd be over the moon lol.

Hope this helps :aww:

You can ovulate and not have periods.
You can ovulate while bf too, with no symptoms, as bf can make your fertility go bit mad.

You can use bf as a contraceptive method if:
- there is no drink and food ( like ff) supplements for baby;
- baby is bf on clue and is not sleeping thru the night;
- baby is under 6 month old;
- mum has no periods yet.

http://breastbuddies.nice-forum.com/breastfeeding-and-nutrition-f24/breastfeeding-and-birth-control-preventing-pregnancy-natural-t569.htm

I've been told to start mini pill straight away, with bf you might wait till baby is even 24 months old before you get your period back :noaf: , average age is 14 months thou.
I've havent had mine yet. :noaf:

You should have been given a choice of contraceptive, Sarah. Its not only mini pill you can use safe when bf.
Some of choices:

The ones considered safe are:
Progestin-only contraceptives
They include
• The progestin-only pill (POP) also called the "mini-pill"
http://www.fpa.org.uk/attachments/published/165/PDF%20Progestogen-only%20pill%20April%202007.pdf
• the birth control injection http://www.fpa.org.uk/attachments/published/136/PDF%20Contraceptive%20injection%20March%202006.pdf
• the progesterone-releasing IUD http://www.fpa.org.uk/attachments/published/152/PDF%20IUD%20March%202006.pdf
• the birth control implant http://www.fpa.org.uk/attachments/published/134/PDF%20Contraceptive%20implant%20March%202006.pdf

Other forms of contraception include:• male and female condoms http://www.fpa.org.uk/attachments/published/156/PDF%20Male%20and%20%20female%20condoms%20July%202006.pdf
• Diaphragms and caps http://www.fpa.org.uk/attachments/published/140/PDF%20Diaphragms%20and%20caps%20July%202006.pdf
• Natural family planning http://www.fpa.org.uk/attachments/published/160/PDF%20Natural%20family%20planning%20October%202006.pdf
• The IUS http://www.fpa.org.uk/attachments/published/154/PDF%20IUS%20March%202006.pdf
• Copper IUD http://parenting.ivillage.com/baby/bbreastfeed/0,,3x52,00.html

I am on the mini pill Cerazette. I was given this by GP at my 6 week check and was told to start taking it the exact day that Andrew was 6 weeks old.

Andrew is now almost 8 months and i have have almost no periods at all. I am ratty and agitated around the time AF would be due. Very slight erratic spotting but generally no problems with pill at all.

Mark is seeing GP about getting neutered so we can forget all about contraception.

(my dad had the snip 22 years ago and my houdini sister is 21)

I have prevously has 5 year implant...turned me into a hormonal raging wreck with no periods.

I had the coil which embedded itself into me causing horrific pain and irregular very heavy periods.

I tried the cap....had Hannah

3 monthly injections and I was again a raving hormonal wreck.

The Cerazette mimi pill will stop you from ovulating and it thickens the lining of your cervix so his little men won't be able to get in.

Not medical terms I know but I know you will know what i mean.
