Breastfeeding tip : Recognising a growth spurt

* You feel as though you haven't got enough
* Baby getting upset at the breast (though can be a sign of other common problems)
* Baby is breastfeeding often or almost nonstop (feel like baby is always wanting to feed)
* A baby who was previously sleeping through the night is now waking to breast feed several times
* Baby will latch and unlatch, fussing in between

default she wont feed!

Post by Helen on Wed Jun 04, 2008 7:44 pm

I swear i think my head is gonna explode! For the last 4 hours bethany has been screaming or doing moaning noises! She keeps saying 'nin nin' so i put on her my breast and she has a 2 second suck then sprises away screaming! I've tried both sides so many times now (will try 1 for about 10 mins then been trying the other) but nothings working!

i've just took her nappy off for a bit and she was still moaning, gave her a bath still moaning, tried feed her again and still the same! Doesnt help that adams on nights so i cant pass her to him for a little bit :iconsad:

Any advise greatly appreciated!

Helen, is she teething?
Sounds to me like she is.

Till LO is feeding 100% I would try to express milk a little bit to ease engorgement. You can offer breastmilk in a sippy cup or freeze.

oh noooo poor baba!!! poor little lamb! not fair!
You could give her little dose of Calpol or Children Ibuprofen, just make sure to follow instructions.
Also teething powders, cold teething rings, wet then frozen face cloth to chew on and even jus masaging her gums with your finger will bring her big relief.
If you'll express milk you might make few momisicles, great for teething babies.
Try to give her pain relief and then after 15-20 min offer a boob. If you will use cold teething ring/ frozen cloth try to offer breast after 5 min and after she pulls off give LO cold ring/cloth and so on.
:aww:
Maya has canines comming thru now, she is bit off food and has little sore bum- due to increased drool- drool makes poo more acidy.:aww:

I would hold on with gel, as it numbs tongue as well and can affect latch.

But great to hear she camled down :aww:

When Hannah was teething she also stopped feeding. I bought some teething powders (boots own brand) they were a bit tricky to get into her mouth as it is a powder but it really did the trick.

:aww: Helen poor you , hope things are better this morning, Emily has been doing this & sometimes nothing helps & i just walk round & round for hours, think the same as everyone else 'teething' i have bought some 'bikiepegs' that she knaws on which sometimes helps & i give her a cold flannel to suck on, I dont like the bonjela but thats just me personally as have seen people sticking in babys mouth all day long which cant be good . Lots of cuddles for both of you x

Dont know if we are allowed to offer bread yet but if we are how about toast to grind on? One of the others will let us know if thats a bad idea.

That sounds exactly like teething...lil miss does that too has done for the past week or so.... You can feel her bottom gum slightly raised and its hot... I've been giving her frozen gummy toys...gel and just booby feeding her as much as poss...shes been really clingy and wants comfort boob all the time... we also have a teething necklace which I think is what has prevented us for giving any medicine so far

:aww: :aww: :aww: hope your lil one gets better soon...
