Breastfeeding tip : Recognising a growth spurt

* You feel as though you haven't got enough
* Baby getting upset at the breast (though can be a sign of other common problems)
* Baby is breastfeeding often or almost nonstop (feel like baby is always wanting to feed)
* A baby who was previously sleeping through the night is now waking to breast feed several times
* Baby will latch and unlatch, fussing in between

Announcement Couple of quick questions!

Post by kay on Fri Feb 29, 2008 1:47 pm

Just a couple of quickies!

After feeding, probably about 10 minutes later, I get a really intense prickling sensation in both boobs, that lasts about a minute or so. Its more than a tickle, but less than a pain, so a 'prickle' is the only way i can describe it! I sometimes get it in the other boob while feeding from the opposite.
Is this normal? does anyone know what it is?

Also, I have looked through BF resources section at all of the nutrition and diet etc, and there doesnt seem to be anything obvious i should avoid ( I dont smoke or drink alcohol). Does anyone know of any foods or drinks i should avoid? (I have limited my coffee intake :tear: to a couple of cups a day).

Thankyou in advance!!!! :aww:

I had that prickle sensation for the first few weeks, it will go hun, as long as it isn't accompanied by pain, or discomfort when feeding I wouldn't worry.

I didn't avoid anything, Oli was fine and to be honest there are a lot of conflicting advice and to be perfectly honest as long as you have a healthy diet it shouldn't matter.

One thing that does effect milk I know for definate about is garlic and babies seem to like it aswell.

That is one of the ones to build up supply as the baby likes the taste so feeds for longer, well thats what I gatherd from it anyway.

Agree with Tasha - on both questions

Unless it gets uncomfortable or there are any lumpy bits then it is quite normal - but keep checking for blocked ducts as this is what i felt later on before i had them.
